It is not uncommon to find wine estates in Tuscany that have been in family ownership for more than five centuries. Here, more than anywhere, the ancient civilisations of italy appear to have ceded little to the passage of time. The region's ravishing coutryside has attracting tourists since a long time and the landscapes of cypress trees, ochre hills, vineyards and olive groves appear like in a painting of Renaissance. Like everywhere else, quality can vary enormously but the best wines have an aristocratic bearing not found elsewhere.
Day 1: Your arrival in Florence
We pick up you at the airtport or railway station and conduce you to your hotel. You'll install in a very confortable hotel in the center of an ancient and touristic town and then you'll walk in the small streets of this very beautiful medieval city. Dinner in a gourmet restaurant.
Day 2: The famous wines of Chianti
The most famous of all Tuscan wines is Chianti, a red wine produced in the higher part of Tuscany region. Chianti is made from the Sangiovese grape, which has elements of fruit and spices, and varies greatly in quality. There is a distinction between Chianti and Chianti Classico – wines from the latter being produced in a region known for producing ‘Chianti’ prior to the new 1932 classification. It is often felt that these wines are of a higher standard. We suggest you a tour in the heart of the Chianti Classico area. A charming trip through the beautiful hills of Chianti area will allow us to visit and tasting the finest wines of two selected wineries. We have a light lunch in a little village and return on the evening to the hotel at Florence. (Dinner at your own).
Day 3: Two great Sangiovese DOCG's
In the morning, we have the chance to visit small wineries that produce the finest Brunello di Montalcino. We also have the opportunity to meet the owners of the wineries who will be proud to explain the wine making process and will lead you to the wine tasting of Brunello DOCG and Rosso di Montalcino DOC wines. We have a fine lunch with traditional meals of Tuscany.
And the afternoon, we visit other casa vinicola in the south part of Tuscany with the famous Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG produced around the town of Montepulciano to the east of Montalcino. It matures more quickly but lacks the finesse of Brunello. Return on the evening to your hotel at Florence. (Diner at your own).
Day 4: Vernaccia di San Giminiano
Today's tour is for people who are interested in discovering the red of Tuscany along with the famous white Vernaccia di San Gimignano. You will be guided in a full day excursion to visit a small winery in Chianti area. Here you will have a great chance to talk with the owner who will explain all the secrets of its wines. We can also stop in the winery for a light lunch. In the afternoon we will continue to the second winery which is located not far away San Giminiano. This area is known for the Vernaccia di San Gimignano which is a white wine made from grapes grown around on the hill side of this famous town. We cannot go away without seeing this picturesque town of San Giminiano known all over the world for its medieval streets and its typical products. We have a dinner in a gourmet restaurant.
